About this tool

The free Morse code translator

This Morse code translator converts text to Morse code and back, instantly and entirely in your browser. Type a message to get its dots and dashes, or paste Morse to decode it to plain text. Press Play to hear it as audio at any speed, flash it as light, vibrate it on a phone, or download it as a WAV file — and nothing you type is ever sent to a server.

It follows the international standard (ITU-R M.1677-1), so every letter, digit, and common punctuation mark is covered. New to the code? Start with the Morse alphabet, keep the printable chart handy, then learn to read by ear with the Koch trainer and to send on the keyer.

FAQ

Morse code translator — questions

How does the Morse code translator work?

Type or paste text and it converts each letter and number to International Morse code instantly — a dot (·) for a short signal and a dash (−) for one three times as long. Paste dots and dashes instead and it decodes them back to text. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.

How do I read Morse code?

Each letter is a short group of dots and dashes. Leave a one-unit gap between dots and dashes inside a letter, a three-unit gap between letters, and a seven-unit gap (shown as “/”) between words. Press Play to hear the rhythm at any speed.

Can it translate numbers and punctuation?

Yes. All digits 0–9 and common punctuation (period, comma, question mark, slash and more) are supported, following the ITU-R M.1677-1 international standard.

Can I hear the Morse code as audio?

Yes — press Play to hear it as a 600 Hz tone, adjust the speed in words per minute, and download a WAV file. You can also flash it as light or vibrate it on a phone.

Is the Morse code translator free?

Completely free, with no sign-up and no limits. It also works offline once the page has loaded, and you can put it on your own site with the free embed widget.
